The PSLC Summer School will be an intensive 1-week course on technology-enhanced learning experiments and building intelligent tutoring systems. The summer school will provide a conceptual background and considerable hands-on experience in designing, setting up, and running technology-enhanced learning experiments, as well as analyzing the data from those experiments in a technology supported manner.

The summer school will last five days. Each day will include lectures, discussion sessions, and laboratory sessions where the participants will work on developing a small prototype experiment in an area of math, science, or language learning. The participants will use state-of-the-art tools including but not limited to the Cognitive Tutor Authoring Tools and other tools for course development, TuTalk tools for authoring natural language dialog, TagHelper tools for semi-automated coding of verbal data, and storing and mining of student interaction data. On the last day, student teams will present their accomplishments to the rest of the participants, followed by a "graduation" party. Participants will be expected to do some preparation before the summer schools starts.

Call for papers for the fourth special issue in the series Cognition and Technology--Learning Technologies and Cognition The interaction of learning technologies with human cognition is the focus of this special Issue. Of interest is how such technologies may facilitate and enhance (as well as hinder) learning, and also how they affect the way we learn and acquire information, and the nature of cognition itself. Original and high quality papers that examine these issues either from an academic or from a practical perspective will be considered for publication.

For more information and the full Call For Papers, please see: http://www.ecs.soton.ac.uk/~id/technology.html or contact the editor, Itiel Dror (id@ecs.soton.ac.uk), Psychology, Southampton University, SO17 1BJ, United Kingdom.

Call For Papers: International Journal of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning
The International Journal of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (http://ijCSCL.org) is a new professional journal founded by the International Society of the Learning Sciences. Members of ISLS will have their choice of this journal or JLS as part of their membership in 2006 and will be able to get the second journal at a reduced price. The primary aim of the journal is to promote a deeper understanding of the nature, theory and practice of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning. A main focus is on how people learn in the context of collaborative activity and how to design the technological settings for collaboration.

ijCSCL is a high-quality, peer-reviewed academic journal reflecting the interests of the international CSCL community. The first volume will be available in print and online in the beginning of 2006-submissions are welcome now. Submissions received during the next month will be considered for the premier issue.
